"Booster" shoplifting foiled www.privateofficer.com

WHITE PLAINS NY Jan 5 2008- A Brooklyn woman led security guards on a chase through The Westchester mall to the entrance of New York Hospital before she was captured and arrested on theft and forgery charges Wednesday. An alleged accomplice escaped.
The incident occurred about 3 p.m. when the woman, identified as Shavonne Edwards, 19, and another woman were seen stealing three leather coats worth a total of $2,766 from Barney's in the 125 Westchester Ave. mall, police said.
Security officials told police the women placed the coats in a foil-lined "booster bag,'' designed to defeat store security sensors. When security approached the women outside the store, they dropped the bag and ran.
Police said Edwards ran across Bloomingdale Road to the hospital grounds, where she was captured. The other woman apprently got into a waiting car and escaped.
Edwards, who police said had several false identification cards, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and second-degree forgery, both felonies, and possession of an anti-theft device, a misdemeanor.
Bail and court information was not available.
