Fake Cashier Check Scam Nets Arrests www.privateofficer.com

Two men are in custody Saturday night after using at least $3,000 worth of fake cashier’s checks at battlefield mall.Springfield Police say two men and a woman went back and forth between Dillard’s and Macy’s, paying with the fake checks worth $500 each.Police say loss prevention departments at both Macy’s and Dillards were tipped off to this scam early in the day.The suspects were using fake cashier’s checks from Great Southern Bank worth $500 dollars.They then made about six purchases total for about $100 each and then received the $400 change as cash.Security at Macy's contacted police after catching one of the men involved.When police arrived, the second man involved fled through the mall towards Dillard’s.Police caught the man with the help of an off duty officer.However, they have not found the woman or the merchandise purchased with the checks.
