Shoplifter flees from police twice! www.privateofficer.com

FORT PIERCE FLA. Jan 2, 2008 — An eager accused shoplifter couldn't run or hide from the Fort Pierce Police Department.
Lawrence Lee Vinson, 44, of Fort Pierce faces two felony charges for escape and crimes against a public servant, as well as a few misdemeanors for larceny.
The owner of a fish and tackle business in the 300 block of U.S. 1 called 911 Wednesday when Vinson allegedly walked out of the store with a rod and reel combo. The owner confronted the suspect, but he fled south on the nearby train tracks.
A Fort Pierce police officer spotted Vinson hiding under a railroad car near Citrus Avenue, the report said. While in custody, Vinson claimed he drank half a gallon of vodka, the report said. Based on that, plus Vinson's overall behavior, the officer took the suspect to a nearby hospital for medical clearance.
While at the hospital, police said Vinson attempted to climb through the roof of a bathroom to escape. Two officers heard a lot of noise from the bathroom while Vinson was inside and found the ceiling framework pulled apart, the report said. The suspect shouted several threats at the officers during the bathroom incident and en route to the St. Lucie County Jail.
