Chandler Az. Dec. 5, 2007
Chandler police have arrested two women they believe are responsible for a string of department store thefts where police say they pulled a car up to the front door, tossed in stolen items then drove away. According to a police report, the latest incident happened Friday night about 10 p.m. at the Kohl's at 1430 S. Arizona Avenue, just south of the Santan Freeway. Kohl's loss prevention personnel told police they saw the women displaying actions consistent with shoplifting after watching them randomly filling a shopping bag with merchandise. The women then exited the store without any items, pulled a tan vehicle up to the door of the store then ran back out with the bag full of merchandise, according to the report.
Police, who had been alerted by the store, located the vehicle after it left the parking lot and conducted a traffic stop.Stephanie Marie Garcia of Maricopa and Tiffany Rashel Zellar of Bapchule were arrested on suspicion of stealing more than $400 worth of Kohl's merchandise, half from the Chandler store and the rest from a Kohl's store in Gilbert earlier that day, according to the report. Garcia later told police she and Zellar had been using the same technique to shoplift over the past two years and that it was the first time they had been caught, police said.
