Target employees sue over termination www.privateofficer.com

BOSTON MA. Nov. 19 2007-- Two former Revere, Mass., Target employees, including a security guard, are planning to sue the company after they were fired for scuffling with an alleged shoplifter in early September.
The two men say the company had no right to fire them after a confrontation in which they fought with a man who allegedly pushed a carriage with $1,000 worth of merchandise at them, according to the Lynn Daily Item.
Lou Siracusa, 58, of East Boston, and Joe Servizio, 31, of Beverly, say they will sue the company for wrongful termination after they were fired Sept. 14, nine days after the fight. Servizio, a store security guard, got into a brawl with the man, identified as Matthew G. Citro, 27, of Chelsea, and the fight was caught on a surveillance video. The two men were scuffling on the ground when Siracusa, a store clerk, and a third employee rushed in to help.
"We were there protecting the store, the people, ourselves," Siracusa said.
Target later fired the men citing a rule prohibiting use of unreasonable force while detaining a shoplifter.
Servizio said the store told him he should have used more restraint but he said Citro attacked him first and then bit Siracusa on the hand.
The newspaper also reported that Citro made repeated threats to kill the store employees and their families, according to Siracusa, Servizio and police.
Citro allegedly said he'd just been released from a drug detoxification center and had hepatitis, according to Siracusa, who is now getting tested regularly to see if he has contracted any diseases from the bite.
Their attorney, Robert Boncorey, is reviewing store tapes and policy before filing a lawsuit, the paper said, and Target has not commented on the incident.
